Founded in 1982, SOLID BRASS, a ten
piece ensemble, is already recognized by audiences and critics alike as
one of the premier brass groups in the country. The members of the ensemble
are some of the New York area's finest musicians who have performed at
Lincoln Center with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, and New
York City Ballet, numerous Broadway Shows as well as a host of appearances
as orchestral and chamber musicians in the metropolitan area. SOLID BRASS
has recorded on the Musical Heritage Society label, Dorian Recordings,
Joseph Grado Signature Recordings, and Craig Dory Recordings; and has appeared
on PBS TV's 'The State of the Arts'. Musical
arrangements are being published
in the SOLID BRASS SERIES of Trigram Music Inc., Century City, California.
SOLID BRASS has been a recipient of a grant from the National Endowment
for the Arts as well as the NJ State Council on the Arts. SOLID BRASS has
performed across the country to sold out audiences and has toured twice
to Canada and to Mexico. SOLID BRASS concerts have also been broadcast
live on WQXR, New York City and WQED, Pittsburgh. In addition to concertizing,
SOLID BRASS has given numerous workshops and clinics to college and high
school audiences, as well as performing educational concerts for over 150,000
students under the auspices of
Project Impact.
DOUGLAS HAISLIP (trumpet),
co-founder of SOLID BRASS, has performed with the major International Ballet
Companies at Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Little
Orchestra Society, New York Pops, and Colonial Symphony orchestras, and
freelances in the New York Metropolitan area.
CHRIS JAUDES (trumpet) is currently lead trumpet in
Gypsy on Broadway. His Broadway credits include lead trumpet
on Sunset Boulevard,
Flower Drum Song, Ragtime, On the Town, and Annie Get Your Gun. He
has also performed with the NY Philharmonic and Saint Louis Symphony. He is
currently the trumpet instructor at Long Island University.
JEFF HOLMES (trumpet) is a graduate of the Eastman
School of Music. He is professor of music and Director of Jazz Studies
at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Jeff is a nationally
recognized composer and arranger, jazz educator, and performer.
TOM HOYT (trumpet) has
appeared as soloist or guest artist with the Bach Aria Group, Philharmonia
Virtuosi and the Chamber music Society of Lincoln Center.
He performs with numerous New York orchestras:
the American Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the New York City
Opera and the New York City Ballet.
Tom has played with over a dozen Broadway musicals and is currently lead
trumpet with the new show Dance of the Vampires.
CHUCK BUMCROT (trumpet), a native of California, moved to the east
coast to pursue graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music after
completing a B.M. in both Music Ed. and Performance at San Francisco State
University. He is a faculty member at Montclair State University and Affiliate
Artist in Trumpet at Kean University, NJ. Recording labels include Sony/CBS,
CBS Masterworks, Deutsche Gramophon, Delos, Koch International Classics, New
World, Albany and CSM.
THERESA MACDONNELL (horn) , is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music.
Theresa's credits include playing first horn on Broadway in 42nd Street, Titanic, On the Town,
Jesus Christ Superstar and Sunset Blvd. She has performed with the New York
Philhamonic, NJ Symphony and other orchestras in the metropolitan area. Theresa has recorded for commercials, CD¹s and movies.
JANET LANTZ (horn) studied at the Juilliard School
of Music. Originally from Florida, Janet frequently appears in Broadway
shows, the Colonial Symphony and numerous freelance orchestras in the metropolitan
area.
NANCY BILLMANN (horn), is a native of Sheboygan Falls, WI. A graduate
of the University of Wisconsin and The Juilliard School, she currently
freelances in New York City with many groups including New York City Opera,
Orchestra of St. Luke's, Eos Orchestra, and on Broadway. Nancy is a member
of the Dorian Wind Quintet and a frequent guest with other chamber ensembles.
CARL DELLA PERUTI (trombone) is co-founder of SOLID
BRASS. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and The Cleveland Institute of
Music, and studied at the Eastman School. He has been awarded a NJ State
Arts Council Fellowship in composition. He has performed in various
festivals and presently is a member of the Colonial Symphony. Carl has
been the trombone instructor at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers
University.
BRUCE EIDEM (trombone) is a graduate of theNew
England Conservatory of Music. Bruce was principal trombone of the Gershwin
revival on Broadway, "Crazy for You", and has recently become
principal trombone of the Broadway hit "Big". Bruce is an expert
in both classical and jazz idioms.
HANS MUHLER (trombone) is a graduate of the Manhattan
School of Music. Hans worked as a brass instrument designer for Yamaha
Corporation and has developed his own instrument design and repair business.
He frequently appears with many freelance orchestras throughout the metropolitan
area.
DON HAYWARD (trombone, bass trombone and tuba) is a graduate of the Hartt School of
Music and is instructor of trombone at Columbia University. He has performed
and recorded with John Cage, Pauline Oliveros, and Peter Kotik. Don
frequently plays on Broadway and was an Grammy Award nominee for Mario Bauza's
recording "994 Columbus".
KYLE TURNER (tuba) has performed with the NY City
Ballet, San Antonio Symphony, Lake George Opera Festival, and the South
West German Philharmonic orchestras. He has toured nationally as a brass
chamber music performer. Kyle is currently performing with the New York
Philharmonic and has played on more than 75 television commercials.
STEVE FOREMAN (tuba) is a graduate of Oberlin College and the
Julliard School of Music. He is an active freelance musician performing
with such ensembles as the Orchestra of St. Luke's and the Radio City Music Hall
Orchestra. He is principal tuba of the Colorado Music Festival.
ADRIENNE OSTRANDER (percussion) is a graduate
of the Indiana University School of Music. She has
performed in festivals in Germany, Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia. Adrienne
is currently the timpanist with the Princeton Symphony and performs with
numerous ensembles in New York and New Jersey. Adrienne performs over 100
educational concerts during the school year and writes percussion ensemble
literature for these programs.
TOM MULVANEY (percussion) performed on Broadway
in Grease and many freelance engagements including jazz, shows , and orchestra
performances. A versatile musician, Tom is frequently heard throughout
the metropolitan area.
